Ferris State Men's Golf One Shot Off The Lead Heading Into Final Round At UIndy Fall Invite

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's golf squad had a huge performance in the opening round of the UIndy Invitational on Monday (Sept. 23) at the Broadmoor Country Club and sits in second place overall heading into the final round of action.

The Bulldogs shot a -22 score for the first two rounds, carding a five-under 283 in round one before firing a 17-under 271 total in the second round of action. Presently, FSU trails leader Missouri S&T by a single stroke going into round three in Indianapolis.

Overall, the Bulldogs shot a 554 score in the opening two rounds of the 54-hole event while the Miners notched a 553 score. Missouri St. Louis is only a shot behind the Bulldogs at 555 overall in third place atop the leaderboard in the nine-team regional tourney.

Individually, FSU was led by Drayton Cleaver, who is currently tied for third overall at eight-under thru two rounds. He shot a one-under 71 in the opening round and came back with a seven-under par 65 in round two for the second round's low score. Ashland's Matthew McMullen holds the individual lead at 132 overall with Daniel Solavera second (134) followed by Cleaver (136) and Connor Benjamin of Missouri S&T (136).

FSU's Zach Koerner is tied for fifth in the field at 138 overall on rounds of two-under 70 and four-under 68 on day one. Meanwhile, Kole Putnam shot a three-under 69 in the first round and a two-under 70 in round two for a 139 total, which is tied for eighth overall.

The Bulldogs' McCoy Biagioli finished the first day tied for 24th in the field with a 143 total, shooting rounds of 73 and 70 in the first and second round, respectively.

Finally, Sam Havey is tied for 26th with a 144 score as he notched a 76 in the opening round before answering with a 68 in the second round.

Ferris State's Shayne Beaufait also competed as an individual and is tied for 39th overall at 149 thru two rounds, notching a 74 in the first round and a 75 in round two.

Final round play begins on Tuesday at 9 a.m. (ET) in Indianapolis.
