Ferris State Soccer Improves to 2-0 in GLIAC Play with Victory Over Parkside

Kenosha, Wisc. – The Ferris State University women's soccer team won its second consecutive game with a 1-0 shutout victory over the Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers on Sunday (Sept. 22) in Kenosha, Wis.

The Bulldogs (3-1-2) completed their weekend road trip with a second consecutive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) win to begin conference play. Previously, FSU topped Roosevelt 5-2 Friday (Sept. 20) for their first GLIAC win of the year.

Senior Lauren Kubacki earned the victory as the starting goalkeeper for Ferris State, recording her first shutout of the season in 90 minutes of action.

Kubacki made her lone save of the afternoon in the first half as Parkside mustered only one shot on goal in the game. FSU had three shots on goal and four corner kicks in a scoreless first half of play.

Katherine Welch gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead at 79:49 with her first goal of the year. Lindsay Cole sent a corner kick into the box and the ball bounced out to Welch, who fired a shot past Lola Minic to give FSU a late advantage.

Ferris State held its lead the rest of the game and emerged with a victory. For the game, FSU had eight shots on goal and 10 corner kicks. The Rangers had just one shot on goal and three corner kicks. Welch was the game's lone goal scorer.

Brinley Bell and Welch each fired three shots on goal with Welch attempting a game-high seven total shots. Ava Fuller had the Bulldogs' other shot on goal. Kubacki faced nine shots from the Rangers, but only had to make one save during her first shutout of the year.

Ferris State will return home for a single game next weekend as GLIAC opponent Davenport will visit Big Rapids Sunday (Sept. 29) for Senior Day and Parents Weekend at the Bulldog Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. (ET).
