#9 Ferris State Rolls Past Wayne State To Cap Unbeaten League-Opening Weekend

Big Rapids, Mich. - The ninth-ranked Ferris State University volleyball team capped off another big weekend of action with a 3-0 road sweep over Wayne State on Saturday (Sept. 21) at the Matthaei Complex in Detroit.

The Bulldogs closed out the opening weekend of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play by rolling to a 25-21, 25-18, 25-18 win over the Warriors in the Motor City. The victory came on the heels of an exciting 3-1 win at #16 rival Grand Valley State on Friday evening in the league opener.

Ferris State wasted little time in making it two-straight to open GLIAC play as the Bulldogs ran their season record to an unbeaten 9-0 on the year.

In the win over WSU, the Bulldogs hit at a .372 attack figure, compiling 52 kills and only 10 attack errors on 113 attempts. FSU also finished with 53 digs and came up with five service aces along with 10 block assists and a solo block.

Senior Olivia Henneman-Dallape again led the FSU attack with 17 kills in the contest. Meanwhile, Syann Fairfield added 10 kills for the Bulldogs as did senior middle hitter Chelsie Freeman. Senior setter Kaylee Maat netted 37 assists.

Defensively, senior libero Leah Bylut tallied 17 digs in the win while Maat added nine overall. Freeman compiled three block assists at the net with Maat along with Henneman-Dallape and Fairfield all notching two each. Emma Bleecher totaled three aces for FSU at the service line.

Wayne State was held to a .273 attack percentage and finished with 44 digs, but no aces. The Warriors also had eight block assists and a solo effort at the net. WSU was led by both Kayla Giroux and Molly Miller with 12 kills apiece. Kendyl Andrews totaled 14 digs with Kayla Dulgar adding 35 assists and 12 digs.

The Bulldogs continue their season-opening 12-match road swing by heading to Michigan's Upper Peninsula next weekend. FSU will face Michigan Tech on Friday (Sept. 27) evening in Houghton before squaring off against Northern Michigan on Saturday (Sept. 28) afternoon in Marquette.
